Geoffrey's work for The Diocese of Cyangugu, Rwanda

St John's Christmas Appeal

‘Houses for Rwandan Pastors’

During 2008 there have been a number of earthquakes and tremors around Lake Kivu. This has caused considerable damage to houses and properties in the Diocese of Cyangugu. Much of the money raised so far has been spent on major structures, but there is still need to repair some of the Pastors’ houses.
As a part of our Christmas giving we have decided to raise funds to help repair and improve the houses of the Clergy in Cyangugu. Where possible we are improving the buildings with concrete foundations, to withstand future earthquakes in the region.

As recently as October we had reports of further aftershocks, reaching ‘4’ on the Richter scale. So the need is urgent.

A part of the money raised will help us provide housing assistance for our clergy when they retire. This is a huge problem for many of the Pastors, as they are on such low incomes they are unable to put money aside for their retirement. In Cyangugu we have several clergy who will retire in the next few years.

Please give generously. Thank you.

SEPTEMBER 2008

During the past few months a new Charity has been established called, RWANDA AID. This has taken over much of the aid and development work that Geoffrey has been involved with. It is separate from the Diocese of Cyangugu, but will work with the local churches as far as possible.
