St John's Church

Welcome to the website of St John's Church.

Who we are

St John’s is the local Anglican Parish Church in Upper Meads, Eastbourne. We celebrate the Christian faith as revealed to us in the Bible and through the teaching, life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We encourage each other to recognise the work of God in the world, and to live at peace in the newness of life given to us by the Holy Spirit. It is our belief that God is our heavenly Father, and loves all people, therefore we extend a very warm welcome to EVERYONE.

Our pattern of worship includes both traditional and modern liturgies as well as contemporary forms of worship. In our preaching we always try to be relevant and topical as we apply our faith to everyday life.

We welcome children into the life of the church, but also try to provide pastoral care to the older members of our community.

Where we are

St John's Church is in the heart of Meads, Eastbourne. The parish boundary runs from Beachy Head, along the sea front to South Cliff Avenue, along the middle of Silverdale Road, left along Carlisle Road, along Paradise Drive, up to and including Link Road, then straight along the Downs to Beachy Head.

Our Church Building

The present church building was dedicated in April 1957, and we have been celebrating our Golden Jubilee with a number of special events during 2007. We have just completed redecorating the church and made some alterations, including an improved entrance and welcome area at the back of the church.

During the summer months (May to end of August) we aim to open the church each morning.

Canon Geoffrey Daintree
Vicar
